On a nice broadside, I would certainly go for AP, especially at tiers 5 and more. On Battleships, at these tiers it's still situational. Even if the target isn't showing your broadside, most cruisers still can get citadel hit, although it's less likely. Even on St Louis, I've one-salvoed many of them on my Wyomming/Arkansas/NewYork. Starting around tier 4-5 it becomes worth it in some situations.Īlways use AP on cruisers. If the AP ammo doesn't have more than 2x the damage of the HE ammo, I don't find it worth it, that's why. Edited Jby Figmentįor low tier BBs, I sometimes stick to HE in all situations. But AP shells can one shot them if you hit the citadel with one or two hits, so I usualy go for AP. With CVs, set them on fire to prevent take-offs, then AP them. Louis has a lot of guns and good armour though, so HE is more likely to provide better results then. Killed a Kuma with an Arkansas Beta in one salvo today for 24K first try at 11.3km range, then got another for 6K next salvo at 11.0K distance. With cruisers, if you aim well, go for AP citadel hits. If they're at an angle with respect to you from which it is hard to penetrate their deck or side, then HE is more consistent and provides a chance of fire. Over that, HE (except if they're showing a nice broadside with chance of citadel hit). Is this a good idea?ĪP and HE has more to do with range and angles.Īgainst other BBs, under 8km and over certain ranges (where you penetrate the top deck as the shells come down from above), I would use AP. Im in the south carolina, ive been firing AP at everything except destroyers.
